Some of them speak English so well!

Cultures were truly exchanged in the classroom when the Coventry exchange group joined an English language lesson for first year Bilingual Broadcast Announcing students last night. Teacher Alan Duan, an Australian citizen, introduced the English students and staff before allowing each of the staff to give advice on journalism and broadcasting in turn. Writes Jonathan Tan…

The group discussed appropriate accents to use in TV broadcasting, with the general consensus being that enunciating words properly and making yourself understood was more important. That said, however, the Chinese students demonstrated an impressive command of English in responding to John Mair’s questions.

We sat around and mingled; most of the Chinese students were tired after a whole day’s worth of classes, but they were genuinely friendly and curious about student life and culture in Britain. What an informative exchange! If only we had more time to talk than just two hours.
