Access All Areas: The 2010 Chinese Grand Prix – A Coventry student’s account

AND THEY’RE OFF! Two Coventry University student journalists, Jason Craig and myself, went behind the scenes of Formula One, the biggest motoring racing championship in the world. With tickets usually difficult to obtain, we were lucky enough to be given paddock passes courtesy of Sven Schafer of F1 team BMW Sauber writes Victoria Howe

The paddock passes allowed us access to some of Formula One’s biggest stars and bosses. We rubbed shoulders with the likes of Jenson Button, Felipe Massa and even Mr Formula 1 himself, Bernie Ecclestone.

Sauber were kind enough to let us use their hospitality suite to complete our live feed to CUToday online. In here we had access to a televised version of the race and a live feed of the official race rankings, something that is not normally shown to the general public. Using this information, our own knowledge and experiences from the paddock we were able to complete our live blog of the race.

Once the race was over we were able to talk to members of all the racing teams and Formula One personalities, including David Coulthard and BBC presenter Jake Humphries. Over all, the live blog was a big learning curve which we would love to repeat.
