The award was presented to Dr. Gideon Maas, Co-Director of the Institute of Applied Entrepreneurship. He commented: “Coventry University is an example of how entrepreneurship related activities are integrated. within education, applied research, and business support.  That helps to create an entrepreneurial culture within students and staff members and the community at large. It’s great that this has now been recognised within the region.”

During 2008, the Institute of Applied Entrepreneurship (IAE) was formed and acts as home to all enterprise and entrepreneurship activities at Coventry University and offers the region – and its students, graduates and staff – a broad range of entrepreneurial support and services for every level and stage of business start-up and growth.

The vision of the IAE is to become an internationally recognised institute of excellence which promotes an entrepreneurial lifestyle and mindset within the University community and its stakeholders. This latest regional success indicates that the vision is fast becoming reality.

The Institute focuses on four core business areas: entrepreneurship education and training, applied research, entrepreneurship support for businesses and creating and maintaining an entrepreneurial culture. These four areas were highlighted in the award criteria.

Also, last year, the IAE was visited by Dragon’s Den star Peter Jones who was very impressed with the work being done.

Peter commented: “I had a Fascinating day visiting Institute of Applied Entrepreneurship at Coventry University. It was a great example of mixing education and business.”

Apart from the services the Institute of Applied Entrepreneurship offers, there are also other specialist institutes who assist in the support of entrepreneurship and a wide range of support programmes for entrepreneurs.
