A NEW ACADEMIC year is looming and so Horizon volunteering at Coventry University is looking for students willing to lend their time to good causes but the well seems to have dried up.
The first major event requiring volunteers is Coventry Irish festival starting Thursday the 24th of September and running until Sunday the 4th of October, which celebrates the culture of the emerald Isles. The event includes cultural workshops, music, dancing, comedy, a gala dinner and many other activities. The events kick off on Thursday the 24th with the rest of the world as it celebrates the 250th anniversary of Guinness.
Marshalls are required on the 27th of September for a Cancer Research UK 10k run. Then on the 4th of October the British Heart foundation are organising a Coventry bike ride that hopes to attract 250 riders. There will be a choice of 30 or 50-mile courses that take in some of the Coventry and Warwickshire sights including a beautiful autumnal Coombe abbey vista.
Horizon volunteering administrator Rosie Keenan considered the need for volunteers as urgent as they hope to improve on the 700 people who registered to the volunteering scheme last year.
