DEGREE SHOWS are the best way to showcase the hard work of final year students and this years media festival displayed the very best from: advertising, photography, radio and TV at Coventry University.
Acting dean Mark Evans spoke to CUToday about this years degree show: “It’s nice to see so many projects consisting of imagination and real world awareness.”
From the 28th to the 29th of May Ellen Terry was crammed with different projects. The Advertising students had to produce adverts and pitch website ideas for real companies to develop skills for the scary world of work that they will soon be entering. One of these projects was SIX Advertising founded by Matt Linzey, Gracey Bennett and Rob Tuffin. As part of their final year project they worked with CV One on a project to bring shoppers into the city-centre this Christmas.
Jenice Patel, a Media Production student displayed her project entitled “My Friend died in a car crash” in the radio studio. Jenice used photos and sound to great effect to give viewers a “wake-up call”.
Journalism and Media students had their work displayed in the Newsroom and were on air in the radio studio all day, broadcasting various programmes in the Ellen Terry and Graham Sutherland buildings. One of the highlights of the Show was a media production team headed by Luke Huckle who was promoting their own channel “Blaze TV” the UK’s no.1 Ice Hockey TV. Luke Huckle said: “We have been filming in the European tournament and we get over 3,000 hits per game”.
Having worked frantically the last few months to complete their projects final year students could now sit back and watch visitors enjoy their work. Mark Davkon, who was in charge of the Photographic room on Thursday said: “It’s nice to be celebrating the creativity of students”. For those who missed the show the projects are explained in Degree show booklets and videos as well as on the official Degree Show website: www.degree-showcase.com.
The Art and Design Degree show continues until the 5th of June in the Graham Sutherland and Maurice Fost buildings. The final year Fashion Show will be on the 4th of June showing off designs from third year students.
