Oscar winner in conversation

COVENTRY WILL be the official home for Holocaust Memorial day this year, with a major exhibition called ‘Anne Frank and You’ commencing in the city’s Cathedral from January 5th.

Jon BlairTo coincide with the exhibition, Coventry University welcomes the distinguished director of the Oscar winning documentary about Anne Frank to Coventry on Thursday 8th January to talk about it.

Jon Blair is highly distinguished in the world of documentary and film-making, with a number of prolific red carpet premieres and accolades to his name.

He is the only British documentarian to be the proud winner of all the major industry accolades, which include many Oscars, Emmys, and BAFTAs.

His many films have included ‘Schindler’ in 1983 which preceded the Stephen Spielberg Hollywood epic ‘Schindler’s List’ by a decade.

Schindler won him a BAFTA but for his ‘The Diary of Anne Frank’ released in 1995, Blair was nominated for and won an Oscar, an Emmy and many other awards.

Blair is still very productive having just finished a documentary on the street gangs in Rio called, ‘Dancing with the Devil in the City of God’.  It is scheduled for transmission in the latter half of 2009 to much media and public anticipation.

He also has a comical side to his working life, as he can claim to be the co-creator and one of the original Executive Producers of the ground breaking ITV satirical series, ‘Spitting Image’.

Coventry Conversations event organiser, John Mair, said: “Jon and I were undergraduates together at the London School of Economics thirty five years ago and in the BBC twenty five years ago.

“Since then, he has gone on to a stellar and distinguished career as a documentary maker. We are very honoured to have him come to Coventry to talk Anne Frank and his art.”

Jon will be coming to converse at Coventry University for what will be the 99th of the very successful media lecture series, Coventry Conversations.
